Ten Things of Thankful on a Sunday Morning Run.

Ten Things of Thankful on a Sunday Morning Run.

It’s been freezing here for most the week.

Broken pipes type of freezing.

And when it wasn’t frigid it was raining.

Grass squishing like a furry sponge under your galoshes kind of drenching.

So when my running buddies asked if I wanted to run this morning at 7:30, I countered with 7  so I could be back and help get everyone presentable for church.

Super.

Until the alarm went off this morning.

Pooh. Seven a.m. runs mean 6 a.m. alarms.

What friend of mine would let me suggest such a thing much less agree to it?

Ten reasons I’m glad they did.

I stopped to take this photo. While I was struggling to get my gloves on and off my buddies flew on ahead. But the morning light was so lovely.

9. I got a few sips of coffee alone in the semi-dark house before I left. Quiet. My spirit drank it in.

8.  It was cold but not that cold. I dressed perfectly. Not too much layered on. Nor too little. Just right.

7.  Got a few laughs in running with my homies.  No better way to start the day than with laughter.

6.   We tried a new route. Same distance but with a lot more hills. Better cardio.

5.  Took the dog with us. Early morning walk for him checked off the list. Who says I can’t multitask?

4.   Exercise done (for the human as well) by 8:05 a.m.

3.   Not worrying about dodging a single car.  Exercising early on a Sunday means most everyone else is still in bed. Or at least in their p.j.s.

2.   The sense of peace one gets in quiet beauty when your heart is pumping at a comfortable pace.

1.   Quiet, low light and laughter. Nothing better.

What were you thankful for this week?

YES! *NOW* I understand your #2

Though I never run in the mornings. Hate mornings. With a passion.

But glad that you loved yours 😀

  2. Jamie Miles says:

Yes, Lizzie. I end up hating them a lot less when I am finishing my run.

An early run (or walk) with friends is a great way to spend the day. It never seems like it as the alarm is going off, but I never once regretted it afterwards. (Not that I’ve gone on an early morning run or walk with a friend in years.) It’s just so peaceful and pretty and quiet outside in the morning.

Ahhh. This was nice and made me reminisce running memories. Which are aged memories cuz I haven’t been in a while. I would love some running buddies in my neighborhood.

I used to trail run with my dog through the fields and trails near my home, but we haven’t been in a bit. I’m a hibernator. I have sloth like tendencies in the Winter. OY.

    I love this post.

    I love running.

I don’t love running outside now.

So I treadmill. At the gym. With playcare watching the kids.

But I LOVE and MISS what you posted here. Oh! When the kids are older. I’m gonna do these runs and these posts.

I REMEMBER runs like this. They are: beautiful. And so worth the effort.

    Thanks for the post.

The kids will be older and you will have more free time. Sooner than you think. 🙂

  7. Sounds like your Sunday run gave you much more than you thought it would. Isn’t it lovely when that happens?

This post makes me want to start running! I would most definitely be a morning runner. One because I am my best self in the morning and two, there is something so energizing about the start of a new day. Lovely post!

  9. I ditto the commenter above… makes me want to start running! I love the photo in the early morning light, so beautiful. Such a beautiful post, thank you, Jamie!

The hardest thing is getting out the door. Once I come back I wonder why I didn’t want to go in the first place.

  11. Brittnei says:

That definitely sounds like the perfect run! I love that picture of the sunrise. So beautiful. I’m glad you got up and went too. Thanks for sharing all the details of this with us. You almost make me want to go running in the am. 🙂

  12. You make me want to run in the early morning with this beautiful post. And that’s saying a lot because my mornings are crazy and I’m so not a runner. Still, you make me want to be. I’m glad you had such a lovely Sunday morning!

  13. Alexa says:

That is a superb list of reasons! I need to get back into running! Miss it!

Isn’t it amazing how the peace of the morning, along with good companionship, the beauty of nature, and a big endorphin infusion can energize you? I so enjoyed feeling like I was on this run with you…
