Musing on Verdicts. And what’s a good age to start shaving legs?

Musing on Verdicts. And what’s a good age to start shaving legs?

I really wanted to write on something funny  today — and then the jury handed down the Casey Anthony verdict.

My father watched every square inch of that trial.

He did this because he is 84 years old and has time on his hands.

And because he practiced law in Orlando for almost 60 years.

He was before Judge Belvin Perry, Jr. many times. Dad said he was a sound jurist and the trial was in good hands.

Too bad it wasn’t a bench trial.

I asked my father what he thought of the verdict. He e-mailed back:

No. I think I’ll forgo including his comments in this post — other than saying: “We love you DAD”

It was a horrible thing — the entire mess of it — from sordid beginning to end.  I’m not a blood-thirsty person. Not a death penalty person. Just looking a the weight of the evidence, I didn’t see this coming. It was like driving a long and turning the corner to see a cow escaped from his pasture standing in the road.

Thank God, I had a normal childhood. Thank God I never wigged out. (Other than a brief dalliance with a  midlife crisis triathlon obsession. Triathlons are wonderful. Just best not to overdose on them when you have family.)

Speaking of which, my daughter just came into the room wearing some of my lipstick.

That’s what I was going to write on ….before the verdict.

My daughter and her request this morning to shave her legs.

I can’t remember when I did, though I do remember it was before that dreadful female monthly hemorrhaging thing started.

What do you think?

What is the average age girls start shearing the hair off their legs?

Because I am too ill over the CA verdict to even comment, I will give you my thoughts. I honestly cannot remember how old I was, though I remember where. I was at my cousins, and I guess we were bored. She was older than me and decided it was time for me. I didn’t ask permission. I also remember how weird my legs felt…almost numb.

I can say that my DS2 just started shaving this little mustache. He looked like he had dirt over his lip. It had to go. My husband helped him the first time. The second time, he texted me and said I just shaved. Ok then.

so my answer is, shave after your daughters legs look dirty all the time, but before she decides to do them herself and not tell you. 🙂

    xoxo

Definitely before middle school – so I guess that could be 5th grade – lots of girls, um, grow up fast than we did in the 5th grade these days. 🙂 I am still scarred because my Mom made me wait until 7th grade and I was the last person on the planet.. Ha.

Sage wisdom Ruth. With menstratiom and shaving peers are unforgiving on the last one.

Started shaving my face at 12. Started shaving my legs at 45. Don’t know why. Guess it just makes me feel pretty.

Wow. I reeeally love the picture, although I am afraid of razors. Can;t remember but thinking it must have been seventh grade. I do think guys that shave are very confidant. Good for you John!

Afraid of razors? I didn’t think you were afraid of anything Kim. I”m not afraid of them. Just find my showers have to be so quick these days, I’m not much good with one. Now if I could take a bath everyday like the picture. I’m might stay better manicured.

My little girl started shaving her legs last year, at 12. One day she was begging for her sippy cup, the next day she was yeilding a razor. I recommended she go French, no shaving at all, but she wouldn’t hear of it. Come to think of it, she rarely listens to anything I say.
