Musing on a jog with my bestest running buddy, Tebow.
I started running with a group of women when school went back in session. Many push children in strollers. A herculean task for anyone who has ever tried to run and push child.
My black lab Tebow is the perfect house dog. He sheds, slobbers, and chews anything that isn’t cat poop. (Wait. Can’t even say that.)
So to keep my furry child from getting chubby, I leased him up and took him with the group of gals one morning.
He was hooked.
Now if I go within 8 feet of my running shoes, he pants at my side.
Each morning, the routine goes like this. Everyone piles in the car to go to school. After drop off, me and Tebow pull into the church lot to run.
When he thinks time is drawing near for the kids to leave.
His excitement builds in the Primary School carpool line. (Which was EXTRA long today.)
After dropping brother and sister off, it’s “game on” pulling into the church parking lot.
After checking in with everyone…and a tad disappointed there were no other four-footed joggers this morning.
We are off!
It’s rather like water-skiing. Except that there’s no water and you’re staring at someone’s rear end.
We have to play catch-up sometimes. Tebow stops to do the things dogs do when they finally are OUTSIDE in fresh air surrounded by the fresh smells of all the billions of dogs who have run the race before him.
All done.
Did you get exercise in today? Did your dog?

Tebow is one handsome dog. Love that you take him in lieu of a kid in a stroller. It’s still 100 degrees out where I am so exercising outside is out. I make do on the elliptical machine, where, sadly, there wouldn’t be room for a dog!
Anne, it is supposed to be back in the 80s later this week, but we felt the taste of fall this morning. Hang in there, the temps will cool down sooner than later.
I miss taking my dogs on long walks! I wish we could all walk as a family but two dogs and a baby stroller is just too much for me to handle! Enjoy your runs!
Labs make the best running partners.
Yes, two dogs woud be a little much. It’s quite the upper body workout with one strong dog. Two would be next to impossible.
He looks so forward to it. He stands right in front of the back door so there is no way we would miss him when we are leaving for school. I had another lab many years ago and ran with him for years till his body just couldn’t anymore.
What a good pup! I remember trying to make Jack into a “running dog” back when he was young. He is a cocker, so this type of thing isn’t exactly his forte.
I love that you bring him to school drop-off and pick-up! I’ve done that the past couple days because the weather has been so nice!
Oh I just loved this post – the quirky pictures of Tebow told such a story, and he is just utterly adorable (and so lucky to have YOU for his runner mama)! I was supposed to get to the gym this morning after drop-off but got into the Baby Ruths in a self-pity party after first day of school drop-off instead. Tomorrow! (-:
I get the Baby Ruths. I had a pity party in the aisles of Wal*Mart last night realizing my oldest was turning 18 today. You want to see them thrive and mature — and at the same time it’s hard. That’s why you can’t beat a great dog. Lots of uncomplicated love.
Dogs are so great. They are social creatures. Give them a carline of parents and kids and they are entertained.
I should take Tebow out. I weighed in at 208.5 today. Very sad.
It was your dinner. I never weigh myself the morning after eating at Mexican restaurant. But Tebow needs yur love too. His love language is Quality Time.
I thought I was bad with dog’s names. I love the reason behind the name and knowing now your a Florida Gator I get it.
However, my kids love that Georgia boy Jason Aldean and our dog is named…are you ready….Athens!!! Ewww! Jason has a dog named Athens and is a UGA fan BIG TIME. The next dog is mine to name….it’s going to be very feminine!!!
That is too tunny. A Gator with a dog named Athens. Well, I like it better than Uga. Good meet you. In kinds of weather, we’ll all stick together…
[…] Love of running. Tebow dear, you’ve really gotten in too good a shape. I feel like I’m running behind an […]
