Knowledge is power — in changing bike tires and blogging.

Knowledge is power — in changing bike tires and blogging.

Today I had such plans.

Then I decided to take a bike ride with my son.

Which shouldn’t have been a big deal. Till one teensy move by me made it a big deal.

I pumped too much air in a bike tire and a shot rang out.

I saw this part of the tire after I put about 80 PSI in the back tire. And the tube exploded.

Pooh. Okay I said a few words a little more colorful than pooh. I just did changing a tire with my son’s bike.

So my productive day turned into an afternoon trying to change a tire.

This time like last time, I called on my neighbor, Rob Jones, for help.

This time I was determined to do it solo.

So I asked Rob what tools to buy.

Low and behold, I got that back tire off.

Then I changed the inner tube and we had our ride.

Though I really hate it when I have to change a tire, with practice and the right tools — I can do it now without panicking.

Which is good. Because if you are going to ride a lot. Changing a tire is pretty basic stuff. You don’t want to be having to ride 30 minutes down the road to a bike shop watch somebody do something you should darn well be able to do yourself.

Starting tomorrow, July 1, I’m joining up with the Yeah Write community’s challenge to work through ProBlogger’s 31 Days to Build a Better Blog.

Like changing my bike tire, I looking forward to learning more about this blogging gig and having the tools to do make things run better.

I’m going to do my best to complete the assignments each day, with updates-on-my-life posts thrown in for good measure.

Lots going on this month. Including a remodel of the back portion of our house.

I just learned no air and no water for two months.

In spite of that hardship, I’m looking forward to building a better blog for you my reader. And me.

It’s just like changing a tire. Knowledge is power.

Why not come along for the ride?

No air and no water for two months? Yikes! I’ll be praying for you.

Knowledge is power, so maybe I better check out this series as well. 😉

  6. Way to go at figuring out the tools you need and how to change the tire. My dad is an avid biker, he always carries a spare inner tube with him. I think he can change it without tools, but I also think he has the kind that you can flip and lever and the tire pops off. No tools needed.
Anyway, how are you going to go without water for 2 months? Did I read that wrong?
Looking forward to your 31 days challenge.
    Take care,
    KC

Come join the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Jerralea. I need to get working on today’s assignment — the elevator pitch.

    What? It couldn’t possibly be.

I know. True cyclists keep all that on them when they ride. I’ve been 15 miles from home and cut a tire. No fun. Finally a nice girl gave me a ride. The road bikes are made to pop the tire off pretty easy. This was my husband’s beach cruiser. It was amazing how much easier it was to take the bolt off with a ratchet wrench. Another notch in my pink tool box. And yes — no water for up to 8 weeks. We have a little guest cottage out back. Guess we all will be using the bathroom and kitchen out there. And sleeping out there with the AC.

  11. Slowly but surely your posts are going to inspire me to get myself a bike. I haven’t ridden one in at least twenty years, and I don’t know how to do any of my own maintenance, but I can’t let that stop me.

  12. Jamie Miles says:

I hope so Cyn. I’ve surprised myself how much I enjoy riding with my son. I’ve tried the run/walk thing with him for a few years — but he seems to enjoy this more.

I’m impressed, inspired, and amazed: the blog, the bikeride, the survival skills…the only thing that would make this July crazier would be if you did it all NAIED like the new tv survival show! But then again, blogging is pretty revealing and you ARE drinking those little diet drinks! I’ll be reading your blog and staying inspired. THANK YOU for doing this!

  14. Jamie Miles says:

NAKED???? I shutter at the thought. And it would be the only reality TV show with a naked person Cancelled for lack of interest. Thanks for the laugh, Laura. I haven’t been horseback yet. Your summer is ahead of me there.

  15. I am so impressed that you changed the tire by yourself!! I didn’t realize Yeah Write was doing the 31DBB. I bought the book and have yet to do it. Maybe i’ll jump on board!

  16. Jamie Miles says:

Come on and join us, Alexa. We are only on Day 2. Which means I do need to sit down and do a list post.
