“It Just Doesn’t Matter” List of Ten.

“It Just Doesn’t Matter” List of Ten.

It’s early Monday morning and I’m thinking it’s time for a list.

Funny how that happens.

This week Stasha took the suggestion of Ally from Just a Normal Mom for the prompt:

10 BEST MOVIE QUOTES. Or ten best movie moments. Or ten something movies.

Now I’m not the movie buff in the family, but I’m not going to wake my sleeping husband for help. I’m going to do this all by my big girl self.

Here goes.

Ten Movie Somethings. Or Ten Movie Quotes that I say to myself all the time.

10.  Well, with the lapses in my brain in grasping important information “Anyone, Anyone” often comes ringing. Let’s just say “Thank goodness” for google. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

9. “It just doesn’t matter.” Another favorite because sometimes in life we stress out about things that “just don’t matter” in the long run.

“It just doesn’t matter. It just doesn’t. It just doesn’t matter.”  Meatballs.

8.  “I don’t think heavy stuff is going to come down for quite a while.”  Said to myself when indeed all heck has broken loose in my life — but I forge on. Carl Spackler, Caddyshack.

7.  You’re dead to me now.” This is usually me referring to something that is making me crazy. And after googling this clip, I realize that he really says “Fredo, you’re nothing to me now.” I’ll probably keep saying it to myself wrong since I have for 20 plus years. Michael Corleone. Godfather II

6.  “Dogs and cats living together.”  This springs to mind when something in  life goes haywire —  biblical proportions haywire. Dr. Peter Venkman, Ghostbusters.

5. “Just when I think you couldn’t get any dumber –– you go and do something like this.  . . . And totally redeem yourself.”  Another favorite to say to myself about myself. I guess I’m big on doing dumb things and even bigger on redemption. Dumb and Dumber.

4.  “Our pets heads are falling off.” Alas another quote that leaps to mind when the wheels-are-off-the wagon. Kind of like “could things get any worse.”  Dumb and Dumber.

3.   I love him so much.”  Love Holly Hunter in this movie. Everyone is so wacky around her and all she wants is a baby.  This line usually springs to mind when I have a silly irrational love for something.  Which is often. Raising Arizona.

2.  “That’s nothing to be proud of Rusty.  . . . 50 yards. ” Clark Griswald Vacation. When I accomplish something really silly and have a disproportionate amount of pride in it like when I line up the coffee mugs on myself just right.

1.  The new phone book’s here. The new phone book’s here. I’m somebody now.”

“This is the kind of spontaneous publicity – your name in print – that makes people. I’m in print! Things are going to start happening to me now.”  Navin Johnson. The Jerk.

So many things in this one.

Joy when some unexpected arrives. Joy when something silly happens and I get noticed. Joy when somebody leaves a quote on my blog.

Yes, things are going to start happening to me now.

What about you, any movie quotes that are a part of your daily internal lexicon?

And yes, it does appear that I stopped watching movies in 1985. Maybe I just don’t have the time anymore to watch the newer ones — over and over and over?

  1. I haven’t seen most of those – see I’m not a movie buff either. But as long of a movie as Godfather I & II are, I probably know them by heart. The Jerk one is really funny – haven’t seen that until now 😉

  2. Jamie Miles says:

That you don’t know most of these Kenya probably a reflection of your age (younger than I) or your good taste. j

  3. Wayne says:

There are some great quotes here. Well done.

  4. I love that you have Dumb and Dumber quotes.

We say “Our pets heads are falling off!” when we’re getting frustrated, to break up the tension.

Another one we do is the “Pardon me, Mr. Perfect! , I guess I forgot you never made a mistake!

  5. The Jerk one made me laugh out loud! Love that we both included the Holly Hunter scene from Raising Arizona! 🙂

  6. christine says:

I am so glad I read your list first. My list doesn’t have a movie later than the year 1985 either. 🙂
I have some of the same movies, and as for the phonebooks, also one of my all-time favorites.
However, I did not take the time to add the videos to go along.
    Great list!

  7. I say that National Lampoon’s Vacation line to my boys all.the.time. And they always just look at me sideways because they have no idea what I’m talking about or why exactly I’m calling them Rusty! 😀

  8. Stacey says:

Ferris Beuler is just a classic! I say that one too. You have some great movies on your list!

  9. Bee says:

I think need to watch Raising Arizona again!

  10. Lisha says:

Oh, my. Someone else who quotes “The Jerk.” I’ve found a kindred! My husband’s nickname for me when we were dating was Sh!thead. I thought it was totally endearing. 😉

  11. Pam says:

Glad you went the comic route! I needed a good laugh this afternoon!

  12. paul says:

Love everyone of your picks. Kinda felt like #1 when I got my first piece of mail at the new place, a Sears catalogue. Thanks for the chuckles.

  13. I say the Ferris Bueller one often myself. It is a very useful sort of quote!

  14. Bridget says:

We both quoted Dumb & Dumber. That has to mean something. Which one of us is which?

  15. tiffani goff says:

You have me laughing again, and I love that you like dumb movies just like me. Very fun!!!

    xoxo tiffani

  16. Funny stuff. My significant other suggested a quote from Dumb and Dumber and I blew him off. I think he was onto something. 🙂

  17. Azara says:

I love Dumb and Dumber. I’ve already decided to do a part 2 to this list, and I have a D&D quote on it! I never get tired of watching that Ferris Bueller clip either.

  18. Maggie S. says:

We use a disproportionate number of Seinfeld quotes. Way too many from O’ Brother Where Art Thou. And various and sundry from a limited variety of movies of widely ranging quality.

    Love your quotes!!

  19. Audrey says:

Oh great quotes!!!! I love that you had Ghostbusters in here! And The Jerk 🙂

  20. Stasha says:

Ha ha. Most of my music knowledge stops right around the day I gave birth. So I when someone mentions Rhiana I am all:Umbrella, ella, ella…
Great list Caddyshack is one of my absolute favorites.

  21. Kerry B says:

OMG DUMB AND DUMBER! “do i have a chance? ” “it’s like one in a million.” “I DO HAVE A CHANCE! ” I wish I could be only half that positive!
Love the list and I’m totally using “that’s nothing to be proud of Rusty”
