In the beginning. Stream of Conscious.

In the beginning. Stream of Conscious.

The blank page.

Sometimes it’s quite terrifying.

Looking at that blank screen my brain does the same.

Kind of like a coma. Or what I would imagine a coma to be like for a brain.

What I’ve learned is that you just have to start to vomit stuff on the page.

If it’s for a article — some quote or outstanding image from the interview.

If it’s trying to write on my book….just jump in with the idea I thought would be a good twist on my walk earlier in the day.

I can clean things up later.

The main thing is to start. I once read it takes 30 minutes of writing before your real creativity starts flowing.

That’s a lot of vomit before the pearl.

Thank goodness for Word technology. That would be one messy typewriter.

A link up with Jana and:

Her prompt today was Beginnings. Which I always have trouble remembering has two “n”s.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.
  • Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
  • Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.

What does the word beginnings prompt in you?

  1. LOVE this take on beginnings! Just wonderful!!

  2. There’s a Lady Gaga song that uses the expression “vomits her mind.” It may not be the prettiest mental picture, but it’s certainly apt.

Thirty minutes is a long time to get creativity going with writing!

SOC Sundays is perfect for just letting your mind go and wander… even though it is only five minutes. It is a good release.

..”vomit stuff on the page.” I love it!
