Good night John Boy.

Good night John Boy.

A week ago  tomorrow we put the tree up in its stand.

(Because my college son was here and I knew Hubs and I couldn’t lift the tree by ourselves.)

Here stands the tree at 7 p.m. tonight.

Don’t judge. It’s been a busy week.

Our little burg of Madison is hosting its Christmas Tour of Homes tomorrow and Saturday.

I promise to post pictures of my neighbors’ beautifully appointed home on the Tour tomorrow.

As for my decorations, I’ve got a tree in a stand.

But I like my house to look festive for the Tour. So today I asked myself.

Jamie. You are busy. What can you do to decorate the outside?

I usually put white lights on the boxwoods around our porch.

Nope. Bored of that.

So it came to me today. The garden.

You can decorate the garden fence.

So that is what I did.

I was so excited.

I loved it.

It was my little garden all tricked out for the holidays.

My collards by Christmas light.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the garden,

Not a veggie was stirring, not even a collard.

I was so happy I decorated.

When my husband came home I asked, “What did you think of my lights? The garden. Isn’t it awesome?”

His reply, “It looks like Christmas on Walton’s Mountain. Like when they made the ornaments out of paper.”

Good grief Jim Bob.

I don’t care.

Well, maybe I do. And I’ll get the tree done tomorrow (maybe) and post photos from my very clever friends home.

Have you decorated outdoors?

The tree is gorgeous even before the first ornament is placed on it!

  2. Jamie Miles says:

May that actually crossed my mind. Ha. But I did get three strands of lights on last night. If I can’t find more in the attic, I need to go to the store tomorrow to finish the job.

  3. Kim says:

I love it Jamie! Only people how like gardens will appreciate this! Who cares what Jim Bob thinks!

  4. The tree is gorgeous! And I love the garden lights, beautiful — looks like it’s time for a garden party! 🙂 We have white icicle lights on the porch, makes it easy!

  5. Jamie Miles says:

You need to take some lettuce home with you if we run tomorrow Kim. I can’t eat it all.

  6. Jamie Miles says:

And Julia, I could so have a garden party. Get a few of those big outdoor heaters. Hang a few more lights from the trees. We’d be set.

We keep the lights circling the pool screen enclosure up year round; just started plugging them in last weekend. It’s the back yard, though, so only our neighbors behind us and anyone driving down the side street can see… in front I have my same three red bows tied around our three coach lights … I may decorate some of the cedars out in the yard with lights but they’ve all grown so much I don’t think I can reach anymore… Merry Christmas to you!

  8. Jamie Miles says:

Michelle, I would love to decorate a tree with lights — but that would require a ladder, a ton more lights (probably more than I can imagine), a power source from who knows where. So I’ve never attempted it.

  9. Oh my, the Waltons! I like your lights. AND your garden. We still have to put ours up.

What a beautiful tree Jamie! And NO, I HAVEN’T gotten to the outside even though I claimed I would have it done in a few days. UGH! Hoping for this weekend.

  11. Jamie Miles says:

Your sweet Tiffani. What you could do with it . . . I saw your interior decorations. I’d love to see what you would come up with for my tree.

  12. Jamie Miles says:

Thanks Stacie. I like my lights too. My garden — even downsized this fall — always “lights up my life.” ha.

Nope. I put little fir trees in pots on the sides of the front steps and a reindeer on the lawn, but have not wired any of it yet. Seriously it is bad. Usually my husband does this, but he had hernia surgery and I … just have not had time to do it yet.
