Trust Your Eyes. A Thriller from BlogHer Book Club.
Political intrigue.
Riveting suspense.
Wild twists and turns.
Linwood Barclay’s latest Trust Your Eyes holds all that and more.
The last book that kept me turning pages like this one was The Hunger Games. I’m good a spotting the path an author is leading readers down but this book had quite a few hooks that completely surprised me. That doesn’t happen often. And I never get surprised as much as I did in this book.
We first meet Thomas Kilbride exploring New York City. Walking along looking at brownstones, neighborhood shops and eateries, his eyes settle on a third story window — and he can’t believe what he sees.
The reader then learns that Thomas is not actually strolling sidewalks on foot but sitting at his computer using Whirl360.com, a GPS navigation website shot with something like this.
Enter Ray Kilbride, who finds himself back in Promise Falls living with his younger brother, Thomas — along with Thomas’ computer and maps — after their father is killed in an accident while mowing a steep embankment.
Thomas makes his eerie online discovery while scouring the earth — one street at a time — and then he receives a call from a former president….
And things take off from there.
I highly recommend this suspense-filled ride. As a writer I appreciate Barclay’s ability to keep the tension high and climbing through the entire novel. Wow.
I did receive compensation for this review but not only do I encourage you to add it do your reading list, I’ve already placed it on my husband’s bedside table.
Not wanting to spoil any of your reading fun I’ll stop there.
