Musing on last second prep for a party ~ on a porch.
Friends celebrate birthdays. It’s nice to acknowledge when they do. It brings them joy and if a friend isn’t going to stop and take the time to raise a glass with you — who will?
I decided to have a birthday celebration for a friend, whose birthday was in the beginning of the month — lest you think me too wonderful.
I tell you things on my blog because I’m basically a mess with life and when I have a little triumph I hope it inspires you. Now your mess may not be my mess, but you get the idea.
One of my messes is organization. Another mess is entertaining. I love the entertaining part, it’s the organization of entertaining that throws me.
A week ago, I invited these women to come to my house for a little celebration after they got off work.
A week ago, I had plenty of time to remove two inches of pollen from the chairs and porch and prepare a spread.
An hour before they were to arrive I sat at my computer. I thought, “You st*pid person.” How are you going to pull this off?
But I stopped and switched off negative Jamie panicked voice and picked up the calm throw-a-party-together-in-a-nano-second voice of my sister.
I made a quick list and headed out. Bought stuff to drink, eat, ice and two flowers in pots. Came home, swept off the porch, threw stuff together and there was a party just sitting there.
Okay, it probably was more of an hour and a half before they arrived, but you get the point. Things got done.
And it was awesome.
Turn off negative “I cant’s.” We can do just about anything with the right attitude and
by casting aside the cloak of perfection (like bury it aside).
I am so ready to do this again. When is your birthday?
