Endless Summer. With Flipper.

Endless Summer. With Flipper.

Spring Fever bit me right behind my left ear.

In the smooth tendonish part that no one sees until you wear your hair up.

Today.

When I least expected it, blue skies and 80 degree temps and white sand opened its mouth wide and injected longing into my blood.

Poo.

I say poo because I look down at my white legs and my poison ivy wrapped left calf and know that beach body and beach weather still are months away. One of which might never return.

Joining up with MamaKat’s prompts this week, I selected#5: Remember Summer? The warm air, blue skies, and endless days in the water? Me either. Share a photo from last Summer that brings you back.

So I chose this….

Isn’t he (or she) a beauty.

Whoosh.

The sound of his mighty exhale.

On a day when the water is calm like this picture, I take my son’s kayak out and try to creep up as close as I can to their pod.

Terrifying and electrifying.

They are BIG. Like when you walk up to a cow. It’s one thing to see cattle as you fly by on the highway with their thick necks down munching grass and entirely another to stand five feet away from their snorts.

Up close, dolphins are gigantic muscular beasts that with a flip of their body could roll the kayak over. Leaving me pitiful and panicked.

There is no doubt when paddling alongside that I have entered into their realm.

With a tilt of his head, one examines me up and down with one eye.

His smile deceives.

To be in the calm Gulf, searing sun (properly browned legs), staring at those curious sea creatures.

Heaven.

Heaven about four months away.

What is the summer memory you cling to on these dark, shortened days?

haha I live in perpetual summer – so I dream of winter that never comes: cozy fires, curling up with a book and a cup of hot cocoa. Hard to do unless you turn the A/C down to the lowest setting. But then the condensation drips all over everything.

I can somewhat identify after growing up in Florida. “Only if I could make a snow angel.” I do long for green on the trees and the color springing from the ground. I hope you have fun with your boys.

  3. What a lovely image, kayaking up to the dolphins. But yes, in real life, I bet my heart would be pounding out of its chest!
This might be kind of cheesy, but I just took my kids to see the movie Dolphin Tale and we loved it. I thought it was done in a way that would really capture kids’ interest and emotions.
    Great post! I can’t wait until summer…. 🙂

My daughter is an animal lover and she has been begging to see it…I think we’ll go and get a summer fix.

87 today in the swamps of east O’town – the azaleas are in bloom along with just about everything else (achoo!)

Nothing saps my spirit like winter season: wake up in the dark – work – dark on the way home, even if it is warm here and somewhat green.

I look forward to DST – sunrise is earlier, so somewhat safer for early morning, somewhat cooler tho humid runs before work, and hours of daylight when my work day is done, for bicycle rides, goofing in the yard, or sitting by the pool after dinner.

Michelle, I don’t know if it’s because I’m older but I do love hot weather. I could use about 2 months of cool spread throughout the calendar year. Glad u enjoy it too.

My sweetest summer memory is the last summer which I’ve spent with my husband and my son in France on the beach of Cote d’Azur!
