Today’s Muse…the Madison Firefighters’ 5K/10K. Beware: lots of pics.

Morgan County lost Homecoming last night. šŸ™

Will post on that tomorrow.

But this morning was so beautiful that I chose to turn my crackerjack, cub reporting skills on that elite race: the Madison Firefighter’s 5K.

I’m warning those saddled with slow internet. This post is going to be a lotĀ of pictures. So if that’s you, the race described in 140 characters or less….

it was awesome. Had fun with running group. Love my town.

That said. It was early after a late night with football and overnight giggling visitors.

When the alarm rang. Ugh.

Why is it still dark at 7? Someone please alert the sun to get with program.

First person I see is Trevor Breedlove. He was very kind to me last May and let me go into the shoot in front of him at the end of one of these things. (I’m not so kind.)

Nice hat. I made him hold up the shirt...which he was kind enough to do.

I went to get my number.

Ken did not want his picture taken. But I'm ruthless. Shooting for an Instagram Pulitzer.

Yes, Ken took time out of his busy schedule protecting the city’s historic features (not me — not that old yet) to volunteer for firefighters. Yay for Historic Preservation.

The gals starting arriving. So proud of Sissy, Amy and Stephanie...all newer runners ready to tear it up.

Saw Lee at start. He wasn't around to pick up his award for 5K. He was running 10K at the time.

Okay…Let’s get this thing going.

Thanks to all the volunteer fire-fighting force...

It was a great day. Lots of the gals from the regular morning run group crawled out of bed to be there.

Our fearless leader Erin. Without Mae in that stroller, she flew....finished 4th overall female.

We all made it andĀ met afterwards for the money shot.

It started turning cooler, so I found people to snuggle with.

One of my favorite running partners, Kim Sitzmann was taking it easy watching her son run.

I love her. Miss seeing her and running with her every morning.

And she was so toasty warm.

She promised to start joining our group.

Dear neighbor, friend, super-agent and mom, Deidre Knight with her daughter, Tyler.

That’s about it. My husband doesn’t understand why I crawl out of bed to do these things?

I’m not exactly sure myself.

But I love running. I love seeing friends. I love seeing friends run.

This is starting to sound like a Dr. Suess book.

What makes you get out of bed on a Saturday to run 3.1 miles?

I seriously admire you and D. Love the strong women that you are. Proud to call you both friends.

  2. Jamie Miles says:

Come join us in May — the first weekend. They have a large 5K “Madison in May.” It would be fun.

  3. ginger says:

Hummmm.. That would take a bit of training up. A bit of planning. Let me ponder.

  4. ginger says:

I do have brand new running shoes I have yet to run in….

  5. Jamie Miles says:

Well Ginger, sounds like tomorrow is the day. Run or walk. Those poor shoes will be so happy up be out of the box.

  6. Great photos — looks like a bunch of great friends! Wonderful! I wish I were nearer by so I could join you all! Looks like so much fun!

  7. john miles says:

Why does everyone’s award look just like yours? I thought yours was one of a kind.

  8. Jamie Miles says:

They all have extra special stuff written on them that you can’t see.

  9. Trevor Breedlove says:

Jamie, You like my hat? Thank you! Its my favorite hat in the world! I just can’t seem to part with it, even though it is literally about to fall to pieces. Hey, that hat would be something great to “muse” on! I was so fortunate to see you first thing that morning. I was actually hoping that you would be there so that i could redeem myself from the Madison in May race. Remember? The one that i let you win? I thought for sure that you would return the favor this time. I will get you at the next one. So be prepared! Its always good to see you around town. Like the other day when i saw you walking your dog. Not sure if you realized that was me. I waved and you waved, so i assumed that you did. Anyway, i always love your blogs!! Keep up the good work and see ya soon!!

  10. Jamie Miles says:

Yes Trevor — I do like your hat. If you got at Fenway, I love it. It’s got the right letter on it…a “B” not a “G.”

And I shall let you keep thinking you let me win. Cause not really sure if you didn’t. And the other day, i clued in later on that it was you — this happens quite often with me. I’m sure I’ve unintentionally offended lots of people. My brain’s a step too slow…
