Today’s Muse. It’s not easy being gray.

Today’s Muse. It’s not easy being gray.

Me and Beth pre- hair do. It looks like she's stopping by for a visit with Mrs. Miles - her first grade teacher.

My 10-year-old daughter stays perturbed with me.

“Why don’t you color your gray hair? It makes you look old.”

Such the tender-hearted lassy.

“I’m going to dye my hair when I grow up. I’ll be 90 and people will think I’m young.”

Don’t know why I don’t cover my gray? Guess it’s just not me. (Some days I really wish it was.)

But I do go in once every 5 years to Beth at Petals for some highlights.

Beth met me today. “I’ve been thinking about you. Why don’t we do low-lights and make your gray the highlights?”

“Sure,” I said. “I trust you Beth.”

I think she just inferred there was a tsunami of gray coming in and we had to develop a new color strategy.  (Hate it when that happens.)

Beth went to work.

Afterwards, I moved to a comfy chair to let the dye work its magic.

I pulled out a book.

POW.

All of a sudden, some evil person got me in the neck with a tranquilizer dart.  Just like Dexter. Obviously, it wasn’t him since I am here writing this.

I could not keep my eyes open.

I erased the picture of the sleeping me.

I will post pictures of my old hands. Or photos of me as Medusa in foils, but Ill never leave the image of me with drool slipping from my mouth onto a big wet spot on the chair floating about forever in cyberspace.

Moms.

We stay still for 10 minutes and we go unconscious.  At least this mom does.

All done for another five years.

I thought this a clever way to show my cut and blow-out without having to pay excessive airbrushing fees.

What do you do? Gray or no?

I go gray, all the way.

With men it always works. No fair.

Never once , have I looked at one of your pics and seen gray. So, your gray must be that perfect shade that just looks awesome.

I have tons of gray, which I have covered with this blondish-red color all summer.. I want to go back to the darker color. It’s moments from fall, and it’s time. But, those damn grays. They don’t play nice. They don’t like to be colored and I’m worried how much will show though in a week, so I didn’t pull the trigger on the box I had in my hand at Walmart. Still deciding.

The gray is all underneath. When I wear my hair up — ponytail..as in ALWAYS it’s granny white. Not even a sophisticated silver.

  5. Jamie Miles says:

Ooh. It;s beautiful. But if you go with that color, do you have to always stand with that come-hither-look? It would be fun to mix colors..like that model used to Evangelista?

  6. I definitely dye, Jamie. But I haven’t gone in a bit. I desperately need to go in for a touch-up. Can you believe that someone at work the other day said, “Wow. You sure have a lot of gray hair.” Gee, thanks…Maybe I will make that appointment after all.

Yay for you–putting up the pictures. 🙂

I don’t think I can pull off that ‘come hither’ look. My husband would probably laugh at me. I’m far to awkward and dorky for that.

If you only do the top, why not the rest? Just curious, other than the fact that once you go there, you are a slave to your hair. And grey doesn’t retain long.

  8. Jamie Miles says:

I just never thought it looked natural to keep my hair dark and then I didn’t like it natural with the gray coming in (v. drab). So she adds a v healthy dose of highlighted tint to liven up things. And it’s not as noticable when your hair grows as all over color is.

Daphne, it is hard on those of us with dark hair — but with your lovely skin tone, keeping it darker works. I just didn’t like it on me.
