My shadow likes running downhill.
Shadows.
In a life full of light, shadows inevitably form.
Today is a celebration of shadows.
Well, a certain shadow.
A furry rodent’s.
No that’s me silly. Around here the groundhogs, chipmunks and early afternoon runners all saw their shadows today.
I missed the mark on my 10 mile training run last weekend.
Today, I determined to get it done. Although I was sad my friend couldn’t join me.
Setting my jaw and adjusting my cap, I turned inward on my shadowy self, plugged in and zoned out.
Keeping one foot in front of the other. In front of the other.
Got it done.
See. I share everything with you.
Even my s0-s0 pace per mile.
Some days are just mental runs.
Who am I kidding? Lately they have all been mental runs.
I find myself daydreaming about riding my bike on Dixie Highway. Looking over the pastures and conversing with dear cows.
This leaves me wondering who is this person who has taken up residence inside my bod and what has she done with the old Jamie Miles?
The one who hated her bike and loved to run forever.
The old Jamie with nice shiny, tight running gear and that looked most awesome on her nice shiny, tight
knees.
Guess her joints got old and died.
No matter.
The impostor got the job done on old Jamie’s raggedy knees.
And new Jamie can check that off her to-do list?
How about you? See your shadow today while checking off some to-dos?

I’m hoping I can bust this 2 hour half mark in a month and then my bod is gonna slow it down too. I can’t believe we have never been able to run together. You gotta keep me posted on any runs in or around Madison.
Holy crappola, batman! Did you do 10 in those 5 fingers? My knees and my feet would be toast. I don’t do more than a 5k in my minimalist shoes anymore.
We do need to run together — or at least do a race. I just can’t go very fast these days no matter how I try. I can do under 10 minutes for 5Ks but once the mileage creeps up, not so much. I hope you do get under two. I think my best half was 2:02 a few years ago. I just can’t do that anymore.
Yes, I’ve run a 10 miles race and 1/2 marathon in the barefoot shoes. It was hard at first, but now that my ankles/feet have gotten stronger it’s not that bad. I have less tightness in the backs of my legs running with them.
I admire you.
I never liked running, but I can ride my bike forever. That is my running, isn’t it?
Incredible job! Right now, it’s below zero here. Can you even imagine what that feels like?
It’s makes your bones feel about 100 years old.
xo
No. Honestly Alexandra, I can’t imagine below zero temperatures. My husband grew up in Minnesota and I was up there when they had exposed skin warnings. To live that way for months at a time — that would be very, very hard.
You inspire me. A lot. Thank you for this post. I need a mental run for sure, even if it’s on a treadmill. Are you training for a marathon?
