I thought it would be easy. Ten names.

I thought it would be easy. Ten names.

Hot Chocolate Race Update.

Not.

Not yet anyway.

That’s what I was planning this morning, but when I decided to look what the Stasha and the Monday Listicle was for old times sake I decided to go with that:

Ten NAMES I WOULD HAVE GIVEN MYSELF

10.  Elizabeth.

I loved this name as a little girl. Now I love the fact that it comes from the Virgin Queen. A favorite movie is Elizabeth with Cate Blanchet. Such an incredible journey from young, naive girl to Iron Maiden. Love it.

9.   Erin

This is a name I grew to love later in life. Almost named our daughter Erin. Another strong name.

8.   Dorothy

Had a childhood friend with this name. Love it as a girl. I’m sure it had something to do with the Wizard of Oz.

Still love those braids.

Okay, I only can think of names I don’t like.

7.   Miranda

As a young law student, thought this was very enlightened, free-spirited and cool. Basically everything I didn’t think I was at the time.

6.  Portia

Another cool, legal fantasy name.

Wow.  I’m stumped.

That’s about it for me.

I’ll add anymore as I think of them.

What about you? Names you would have preferred?

  1. The name list was a bit challenging, but once I got into the groove I could have come up with 10 more.

My renaming groove has yet to find me. Oh well. Names will be popping into my mind for the next 20 years probably.

  3. Heather says:

I love the name Dorothy…and it totally has to do with The Wizard of Oz. Elizabeth also made my list!

  4. Clarinda says:

I agree. This was kind of a tough one, but also kinda fun once I got into it.

  5. Carrie says:

We have some things in common –

    I too, love ‘Ellizabeth’.

And I love, love, love Wizard of Oz.

  6. Venus says:

Totally tough list subject… glad you did it anyway!! I’d love to know what names you *don’t* like and why. 🙂 Post idea??

  7. Stasha says:

Portia is a pretty fantastic name. Sometimes it reminds me of a. Fancy car but it is a legit old school name. You are so classical in your choices. I like it.

I love this list idea, though I’d have struggled, too! For example, the names you listed were ones I really like but I’d never have thought of them. I didn’t like my first or last name when I was a kid, but they grew on me to the point where I now think they suit me. BTW, when I was a kid I always wanted to be called something that could be either a girl’s name or a boy’s name, so Jamie would have been a spectacular choice for me.
