Today’s muse. No soggy run for me but what about my partner?
It’s still raining…
Getting out of bed at 4:15 a.m., I started the coffee, weighed myself before drinking the first drop, then opened the door.
Raining pretty good. I even did the old reach the hand out test.
Yep. Pretty steady.
This was the first morning that it had rained in over three months of running with my partner. Not my life partner — he was asleep at 4:15 and he is still asleep now almost an hour later — my running partner.
She is a most excellent life partner for her hubby. A much better selection than me. She works, cooks dinner, is an amazing couponista (saves their family a billion dollars a year), cans and freezes her garden surplus while mine rots on the vine.
Okay, she’s a great life partner — not that I’m in the market for a new life mate. But here’s the question that was on my mind this morning….
Does she run in the rain?
Does her life-perfection spill into slogging out morning runs no matter the conditions…
like some mailcarrier in a singlet and running shoes?
I texted …. “Looks like it is coming down pretty good.”
The word “pretty” is code for — this is a rain that normal mothers up at 4:30 would think twice about running. Of course superwomen runners enjoy the difference.
Running for decades, I’ve been the woman out there in the dark and in the rain because I had to get my run in.
That woman ran away about 10 years ago.
So I hit send and held my breath.
And the reply..
“ok well. I think I am going back to bed for another hour and a half. :)”
🙂
In life partners and running partners…I choose very, very well.

For me it’s a 30 minute walk twice a week. It’s all about the commitment.
