In the beginning. Stream of Conscious.
The blank page.
Sometimes it’s quite terrifying.
Looking at that blank screen my brain does the same.
Kind of like a coma. Or what I would imagine a coma to be like for a brain.
What I’ve learned is that you just have to start to vomit stuff on the page.
If it’s for a article — some quote or outstanding image from the interview.
If it’s trying to write on my book….just jump in with the idea I thought would be a good twist on my walk earlier in the day.
I can clean things up later.
The main thing is to start. I once read it takes 30 minutes of writing before your real creativity starts flowing.
That’s a lot of vomit before the pearl.
Thank goodness for Word technology. That would be one messy typewriter.

Her prompt today was Beginnings. Which I always have trouble remembering has two “n”s.
This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…
- Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.
- Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
- Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
What does the word beginnings prompt in you?
