Here Comes The Sun – flowers. Rena and Wes’ field in Rutledge, Georgia

Sunflowers.

I love them. Every summer since my soon-to-be 19 year old was about four, I have planted sunflowers.

This year, I have a disappointing lot but there are about seven in my garden ready about ready to unfurl.

What to do?

Go find a lady that has 10 acres worth.

This is Rena Holt’s garden.

I did a column on her field and their family’s annual Sunflower Festival a few years ago.

Looking for something to entertain the nephews with, I figured these Florida young’uns had never seen anything like this.

The field is open from June 15 to July 15 for exploration and cutting. So you better hurry to see get your shears on this group.

And the boys and my sister loved it.

How could they not.

It’s sunflowers.

There was an Enchanted Forest that we traipsed through.

Meeting this fine fellow.

And this fine gentleman.

And this guy had coffee warming on an open fire.

Rena grew up picking cotton in this field that she and her son Wes grow sunflowers.

We had grandson Tyler give us the tour.

Tyler on the left. He said they started the Sunflower Festival when he was baby.

Tyler is now 12. And told us he lives in Florida.

Oh, my sister and her family live in Florida. Where do you live Tyler?

Sarasota.

My sister and her family live in Sarasota.

Irony meets it’s a small world in a sunflower field in Rutledge, GA.

I brought some home.

I asked Rena if she would miss the sunflowers when they are gone for the year.

She laughed and said she’s been out here since March. She’s is soooo ready to be done with them.

I can understand that.

Kind of.
