Baby you can drive my car….please.

Baby you can drive my car….please.

Yes, I’m gonna be a star.

That’s why I drive an 8-year-old Suburban that has more miles on her than a presidential campaign tour bus.

Like me she shows no signs of wear and tear.

I’m puzzled at my husband for making rumblings of me needing a new auto. He worries when I take off on long drives like I’m going to this weekend.

Guess what?

I’m getting a new car.

No Silly.

But it’s Monday and the Listicle Maven Stasha has a new ride. Woo.

Our assignment this week: Ten things ABOUT A CAR.

Ten reasons I won’t give up on my car.

10.  The one of a kind leopard print upholstery.

9.  It’s paid for.

8.   I’ve gotten pretty good at braille and reading my radio knobs. Don’t want to lose that skill.

7.  Cooler weather is coming and the melted crayons at my right elbow rest won’t liquify and get all over EVERYTHING for at least seven months.

6.   The Angel stays, even if the car goes. A gift from my spiritual adviser Annie, this angel gave me comfort when my son was driving.

5.   It’d be hard to give up my cracked plate. But 2007 is getting ages away. I’ll start looking like some pathetic Bulldog fan with a 1980 National Championship plate still on the front of her car.

4.  I won’t miss this. Though I’m not really sure why the car started getting this vinyl skin condition.

3.   It’s already dinged, plenty. . I’m way over freaking out about that first boo boo.

2.    Can’t give her up before Halloween with that purty spiderweb decoration on my windshield.

Happy All Hallow’s Eve.

And the number one reason, I’m not getting a new car.

1.  Because I love her and it shows. She’s the Velveteen Suburban.

What do you love about your car?

  1. Haha!! Oh Jamie! I’d say your car has real character!!! I don’t see why your husband would ever want you to get rid of it 😉
And why is it on its’ side in that first picture?

  2. Jamie Miles says:

That happened driving into our driveway, Jen. Someone hit me from behind and I have to turn sharp..and the car just tipped over. I had to climb out the sunroof.

  3. Pam says:

Hahahahaha! Oh how I love your upholstery! And it goes quite nicely with the melted crayons! Funny how even our cars become a part of us.

  4. What I want to know is how you got the car right side up???!!! I love my car because it is reliable. I can do without the random mildew smell that is overpowering at times but otherwise, I’ll take her. Dings and all!

  5. Jamie Miles says:

Renae, We had the fire department and police show up — small town you know. A tow truck somehow got it up. They were about a million people on my lawn and I was in my bathing suit with a towel. CRAZY.

  6. Jules says:

Ummmmmm….comment #5 may come back to haunt you some day…maybe not in the Richt era….but some day. Pathetic? Seriously? Did you mean to use that word?? Ha!

  7. Jamie Miles says:

Jules, I was reading your comment while waiting for Hannah at piano. Joe asked, “What are you laughing at Mama?”

  8. Ally says:

That, my friend, is one well loved car. She’s one of the family!

  9. Is that leopard print duct tape on your seat? I’ll have to remember that trick should the need ever arise. 😉

  10. Jill says:

The Velveteen Suburban…cute! Love that your not worried about a status symbol car. Keep on truckin’!

  11. RoryBore says:

that’s a whole lotta car character! LOL
I can laugh – I too have the melted crayon artwork and a spiderweb on my front windshield thanks to some back road driving this summer.

  12. This had me laughing out loud – I especially loved the vinyl skin condition! 🙂

  13. Stasha says:

We lived in a humid place for years and always saw that happening to dashboards. My expert diagnosis is heatodermas.
That is the best parking ever. You could sqeeze your suburban in a tight spot in Sicily no problemo!

  14. Bridget says:

John broke his cell phone on day one trying to open his locker with it:) Much like your car he “doesn’t have to worry about denting it anymore.” Excellent.

  15. Audrey says:

Oh I love it! Its paid for and your don’t have to worry about dings 🙂 The perfect combo of a car! Although your custom seats are pretty fancy!

  16. Jamie says:

LOL, this is great! Drive her ’til she drives no more!! She’s obviously been good to you!

  17. I just love the spin you put on your list! LEOPARD seats? You can never get rid of this car!

  18. The most attractive thing in my car is the charm even it’s old that’s still my darling so converting it to an electric car was the best option. Still have it in my garage. 🙂
