A little coffee chat.

A little coffee chat.

Coffee.

When I need to catch up with someone and have the time — it’s always a quick cup of coffee at the local coffee house.

When I need a neutral site for an interview — it’s always over a cup of Joe at the local java palace.

I’m obsessive about collecting coffee mugs.

I get excited about caressing the curve of a coffee cup like men must fantasize about fondling the curve in the small of a woman’s back.

And it needs to feel right. Very warm. No tepid cups need apply.  Not too big, not too small. The handle need not be too thick or too thin.

I’ve got mug issues.

No doubt when linking up with MamaKat this week I had to select prompt:
1.) Friends are on their way to your house for a coffee date…what kind of afternoon can they expect with you?

First, I’ll answer the door out of breath because I’ll have way underestimated the time and stamina needed to straighten my house.

Then we’ll go to my $9.96 coffee maker that I just bought. I buy a new one every six months so this time I thought why spent a lot of money?

My son says it’s too small. My husband said it looks like it is made out cardboard. Which it might be, but I’ve started to feel at home with its quirkiness.

And so far, it makes perfectly fine coffee.

Second you’ll pick out a mug.

Right now I have all my Christmas ones out.

I drink mine black but I try to have milk and sweetener for my guests.

If it’s nice we’ll go sit on the porch. If not we’ll sit in whatever room looks the straightest.

The dog will come and bother you to death. So I hope you are a dog person.

Then we’ll talk whichever way the wind blows our conversation.

Right now, I’d probably start in on money and the holidays.

What do you think? What would you talk about over coffee?

I just got back from an overseas trip where espresso was all the rage. And as much as I didn’t want to like it…as much as I love my big old mugs of coffee like you did…I did.

Like it, I mean. I’m afraid that a new purchase is inevitable.

So what time is good for you? I will be right down there because it’s cold here this morning. I love mine too. Gotta have coffee before just about everything…with skim milk please. Do you remember that TV show on PBS The Big Comfy Couch? I do the ten minute tidy all the time too. I love have the time to leisurely sip with friends and just see where the convo goes but sometimes, with two of my friends and because we always have a lot to talk about and decide, we start with the “must” covers before we digress otherwise we forget to talk about some of the important things. It’s really funny. We joke that occasionally we need an agenda.

Sue – I have to admit, as much as I love my coffee don’t know how much it “wakes me up” anymore. I might need a jolt from espresso every now and then.

Gina. Oh my gosh. The Big Comfy Couch (with the dust bunnies) too funny. We did have kids growing up at the same time. And yes, the conversation starts with something — but spending money at Christmas can end up with estrogen dot or no? And I’ll be around most of the day if you want to drop by.

I have a thing for mugs too. I totally understand what you mean… so that’s why, I think it’s love to come over to your house for coffee. 🙂

  6. The 10-minute tidy is a staple!!! Love that. And I so love that you have seasonal mugs. That is a sign of a serious mug collector. Coffee isn’t quite doing what it is supposed to for me either – might be time to break-up for a week so I can get that old jolt again.

Coffee at your house sounds divine and as long as your dog’s smell doesn’t overwhelm the smell of the coffee, I’m all for it.

Okay – Gina, Jen, Tamara, Sue — Heck, the whole Writer’s Workshop crowd. There’s a mug for everyone. I’ll just expect drop-ins all day and go pick up a couple of bags of Dunkin Donuts Mocha Mint. Will save the biggest mug for MamaKat hersefl.

  8. You do have quite the holiday cup collection, very impressive! We are total latte addicts here so we have an espresso machine. When the coffee pot broke, we never bought a new one. Sometimes that’s a problem if someone wants coffee! I guess I should buy another bodum, something small and easy.

    Can I bring my dog?

  9. I love the time with friends over coffee and I don’t get to do that as often now. I love your mug collection and that you let your guests choose their own mug. I actually don’t like making coffee at home – doesn’t do the trick for me or maybe it’s I don’t want to clean up? – but I’d rather settle into a cozy corner of a local coffee shop.

I also prefer to have my coffee with friends out, rather than in my house. If I am going to pick up my house I rather have a party.

  11. Alexandra says:

    I’m a listener.

    I love people’s stories.

I love to just sit and hear about who they are.

  12. Jamie Miles says:

I agree Alexandra. I love exploring why people are the way they are. Maybe I should relax a bit and just listen who they are and not try to figure it all out. Just be.

  13. Kat says:

Oh I have an unhealthy obsession with mugs as well! I’m very particular about them and Pat is constantly on me if I happen to bring another home. They’re just so lovely! I can’t resist a good one!
