A Very Merry Madison Christmas Parade..A Mediocre Photo Essay. (at best)

002

It was looking a lot like Christmas in Madison during the Bicentennial Holiday Parade.

Now my family, all except teenage son who was too tired (too kewl) to go, scurried downtown to stand across from the Courthouse to view the festivities.

It was turning dark ~ and I couldn’t really tell what my camera was doing. It wasn’t doing much. But here is some of what I captured.

As always..the parade started with our most excellent fire department.

This is a firetruck, in case you can't tell.

The parade had its share of dignitaries. The Chick-fil-A cow.

These pictures aren’t getting better. Sorry. You might want to stop right here, if you haven’t already. Or maybe I’ll just get more vivid with my descriptions.

Ghostbusters.

That’s really some antique ambulance. Like from the 70s. I think that’s my best shot of the entire parade. :)

And the celebrities keep rolling by…

This is probably my worst shot of the entire affair. Unfortunately Mark was turned the other way…but he was screeching by so fast this blurry shot was the best I could get of the 2009 High School Principal of the Year. Yes, that’s right of all the high schools in the county, Mark was voted number one. Follow him on Twitter @tweet30650. He tweets ALL THE TIME.

Okay. He rarely tweets. That’s what makes his lone tweet every 2 months or so special and full of educator knowledge.

Here comes another celebrity. One of the best people on the planet.

If you don’t know her, you are missing way out. Just don’t too many people clamor around her, because that wouldn’t leave any room for me. And my needs are always most important.

Here come the Clydesdales. Just picture them crashing through the snow. See how fast they’re going….

And of course no Christmas Parade would be complete without..

I guess I better practice a bit more before Macy’s next Thanksgiving.

So signing off from across from the Courthouse for another year.  Too bad I couldn’t capture all the spectacle a bit better….But here’s wishing you a merry season from Madtown, Georgia wherever you are sitting in front of your computer at moment.

Where is this in Madison, Georgia? Getting your bell rung.

This looks like a bell.

This looks like a bell.

Okay.

I gave away part of this week’s challenge.

It is a bell often rang  to call young ones home for dinner. In my neighborhood growing up, a family had one of these huge things in their yard. One day  – for some reason – that huge black thing was on the floor of their garage. Running through the dark garage, I tripped and my forehead came into contact with that bell.

Seeing Stars,, Deviantart

That is when the phrase seeing stars came alive for me. From that moment on, I could identify with Looney Tune characters whom got bonked over the head with a mallet and had a galaxy swirling about their noggin. I was very young — and that is where my memory ends with the Pinel’s bell.  (That rhymes. How nice.)

As you can see, this bell is not lying around on the cement floor of someone’s garage. If you can guess where this bell hangs in Morgan County, you shall be this week’s winner.

The first person to leave a comment on the blog wins a super prize.  I can’t reveal the prize or the sponsor – for that would make it too easy.

So have a great Monday and start to the week.

And for goodness sakes, I hope all your bells are where the should be.
Last week’s winner Carla Cloud correctly answered Madison’s new Denny’s as breakfast spot. She received gift certificate to Antique Sweets. Yay.

Where in Madtown did I have breakfast Sunday morning?

Where did I have breakfast yesterday? Well, not at my house for one thing. No, that is a fib. I did have breakfast at my house (1/2 bagel with cream cheese).  But funny after Sunday School, I had become hungry again.

So where in Madison am I having two eggs scrambled, grits and biscuit? With strawberry and grape jelly. One of those bitty jelly packets never is enough for me!

The picture’s lame but the photographer was my eight year old daughter who kept taking pictures. Hand a child your phone and you end up with lots of pictures like….

Fifth cup of day.

Notice the 5 place settings of stainless at my right elbow. That is because our kindergartner sat to my right. He kept spilling his orange juice as kindergartners on Halloween sugar highs are wont to do. So kept having to grab napkins off of wrapped silverware.

Whomever leaves a comment on blog with the correct answer wins another great prize! Last week’s winner was Carla Cloud who guessed the Golden Pantry and knew that the lovely lady Gator Alison Griggs was spotlighted on ESPN. Carla won $5 gift card to Perk Avenue.

I’m thinking this week prize might be something sweet. Who knows?

All right. He said I would never put this picture on blog.  This will show him!!

What, I am not exactly sure.

Have a great Monday…

Where in the World of Madtown (Madison, Georgia) is This?

Courthouse

Blogging about the Madison Fitness Triathlon last Friday made me think. Why not blog about Madison more often? Why not add another category to my Monday blog content?

Madtown Monday.

Now here’s the deal. I shall post a picture with some clues and the first one to leave a comment with the answer gets a prize. An extra special surprise. Such a special surprise, I have no clue what it is.

Joke.

What is this?

 006

Okay, that is such a huge softball, even I am embarrassed. Must try to make this a little tougher.

Who knows where this is??

Where could this be?

Where could this be?

For a little help, many of you scurry by this fine Stop and Go on your way from the middle school — up and over the tracks to all the other schools.

Isn’t it quite a relief when a train isn’t parked at that crossing? That  means DISASTER for getting anyone, anywhere on time.

If you can name the super chef in the picture, you receive extra credit. Though I have no idea what the extra credit will be at this point.

And to make it a little more fun…

For any of you watching the Florida v. Arkansas game Saturday night, what lovely Madison resident was featured for a full 5 seconds or more on the screen? She looked so great in all her Gator gear. But she was sad, for that was the point a Razorback intercepted Tebow and ran it all the other way for the touchdown.

I was sitting at the Icehouse bar thinking “darn that“, when up popped this person on the screen.  I forgot all my sadness and just pointed at the screen yelling, “There’s _____!”  Which was very ironic because on another Saturday night she most probably would be sitting at in that very spot (or somewhere very near).

So…

1. What is the Stop and Go breakfast buffet pictured?

2. Who was the lovely Madtown Gator fan featured on ESPN Saturday night?

The first  to comment with the correct answers to either question…shall receive a five dollar gift card to Perk Avenue. And bask in the the joy of being a WINNER!!

Have a great Monday.

And the dream date thing was just something that came to me when I was typing my FB status. But anyone who’s interested in being prize next week, please leave message. Rob Hanselman this means you.
